Fear Will Make You Settle
May 25, 2026
Let’s talk about fear today.
Not the obvious kind. Not horror movie fear. Not panic attack fear.
The quiet fear. The kind that changes your behavior without you realizing it.
Fear in Relationships with Humans
Fear sounds like:
“What if I never get married?”
“What if I never have kids?”
“Now that I finally found my person… what if I lose them?”
And once fear enters the relationship…people start negotiating with themselves.
“My last partner thought I was too verbal… so now I stay quiet.”
“They didn’t like when I spoke up… so now I shrink myself.”
“I don’t want to push them away… so I tolerate more than I should.”
Fear makes people abandon themselves to avoid abandonment from others.
Read that again.
Fear in Relationships with Food Work the Same Way
Because food can start feeling emotionally safer than people.
Food don’t reject you.
Food don’t leave.
Food don’t judge you.
Food is always available.
At least… that’s what it feels like.
So we eat. And eat. And overeat on holidays because… why not?
Food becomes the comfort.
The coping.
The predictable thing.
And eventually? We realize we don’t actually have control over the one thing we thought would always be there for us.
So for some people, the response becomes:
“Okay… let me try to control it harder.”
Control the calories.
Control the portions.
Control the scale.
Control the cravings.
But here’s the twist…
The tighter the grip becomes, the more emotionally exhausting the relationship with food usually gets.
Because control and peace are not the same thing.
Fear Creates Attachment
And attachment creates coping.
That’s why some people:
--Overeat when anxious.
--Undereat when rejected.
--Binge after conflict.
--Crave sugar after emotional disappointment.
The body is trying to regulate emotions the mind doesn’t feel safe processing.
And Here’s the Dangerous Part
Fear can disguise itself as control.
“I’m just being careful.”
“I’m trying to protect my peace.”
“I don’t want to mess this up.”
Meanwhile, you’re:
--Shrinking.
--Silencing yourself.
--Stress eating.
--Overthinking.
--Living in emotional survival mode.
That’s not peace. That’s fear wearing a calm outfit.
Healing Looks Different
Healing isn’t becoming fearless.
It’s becoming aware enough to stop abandoning yourself because of fear.
To speak.
To feel.
To pause.
To notice the pattern.
To stop using food as emotional protection.
Because food cannot love you back.
And no amount of eating can fix the fear of not feeling chosen, safe, or enough.
That work goes deeper.
Ask Yourself Honestly
What fear has been quietly shaping your behavior lately?
Fear of rejection?
Fear of loneliness?
Fear of failure?
Fear of not being enough?
And how has that fear been showing up around food?
Snack on THIS
Sometimes the real addiction ain’t food. It’s the feeling of emotional safety you think it gives you.
